Advice for longstanding verruca?

hi there, anyone had any good results with verrucas? Recently had some sucess with banana pulp, but no sucess with the old favourite preparations or cryo. i seem to be picking up lots of longstanding vp at the moment, any ideas would be great. :confused:

have you tried aldara cream.it is indicated for genital warts but has worked on plantar warts.it can only be used on adults but works very well.i combine it with an oral regimen of 300 mg daily of cimetidine(tigamet) for two weeks.

Cimetidine is not licensed in the UK for viral warts. However it is used by consultants and some claim success. The literature is equivocal. That is according to the manufacturer.

For the tough warts I use 4% DNCB in collodian every couple of weeks with debridement. It takes 3-4 weeks to build up antibodies after sensitization on the dorsum of the foot.

At Hudds uni we throw lashings of Marigold therapy at the little blighters and it actually seems to work very well (in most cases).

No one seems to know how it works though??

I have treated warts successfully for over 30 years. I prefer the use of Canthrin application with small applicator and then cover with an aperture pad filled with Salinocaine. I cover this with a small Moleskin cover and I have the patient remove the bandage after 72 hours and start soaking in warm soapy water 15 minutes twice daily. If a blister appears I have the patient come to the office in 1 week for I&D (may require anesthetic) and continue warm soapy water soak soaks, followed with apllication of Silvadene cream until resolved. I usually follow the patient in 6 weeks to ensure no residual wart. In children 3 years to 15 years of age I use Cimetidene (Tagamet) in doses of 30 to 35 mg/kg in divided doses daily. Usually 30 to 60 days with 85% resolution. Cimetidine use in adults has not been too successful.

Cantharidin is a medical product compounded by a pharmacy for application by a physician. The general public cannot buy this at the drug store... Of course if you caome across an insect called a "blister beetle", you could use its enzymes to create your own Cantharidin.

Does'nt anyone like to play detectives anymore ? When did it appear, where is it and why do you think it is there ? If you have a mosaic or large multiple sites of infection you would have to be looking for a systemic problem. If the verrucae is over a weightbearing area then have a look at what might be causing excessive pressure or friction . Somtimes the verrucae is present because of trauma ,such as when a child falls over and grazes their knee or a cut .I try not to irritate the heck out of verrucae and use offloading or silicone padding to reduce friction and pressure, at least that way you are not going to cause a scar that might be a bigger problem, and the client is pain free.
