Talking ICD-9 code for Rearfoot Varus Deformity

Podiatry Arena members do not see these ads
Hello Everyone,

I am in need of some help. I have read all about Rearfoot varus(Subtalar varus), from Cilinician's Corner, to professional papers, to all kinds of podiatry journals and books. Why can I not find the correct ICD-9 code?
I have been in the same Podiatry practice with the same physician for the past 10 years and correct coding is extremely important to us. I have reseachered the internet podiatry sites, APMA, OPMA, etc...so here I am.
I thank anyone whom is willing to let a helping hand.

Respectfully,
Teresa

I have moved his to the USA forum as its a coding issue specific to USA.

I do not have an answer, but maybe a guess is because 'rearfoot varus' is not a diagnosis.

In Australia we are now using ICD-10 AM (Australian Modification) version 4 for the development of DRGs and hospital WEIS payments for which I do have a fair bit of the Podiatry related codes, but there was a substantial changge between 9 and 10.

I did however find this site

http://icd9cm.chrisendres.com/

That provides free online searching of the ICD 9

754.5 (congenital) Varus deformities of feet
Excludes:
acquired (736.71, 736.75, 736.79)

736.7 Other acquired deformities of ankle and foot
Excludes:
deformities of toe (acquired) (735.0-735.9)
pes planu (acquired) (734)
736.70 Unspecified deformity of ankle and foot, acquired
736.71 Acquired equinovarus deformity; Clubfoot, acquired
Excludes:
clubfoot not specified as acquired (754.5-754.7)
736.72 Equinus deformity of foot, acquired
736.73 Cavus deformity of foot
Excludes:
that with claw foot (736.74)
736.74 Claw foot, acquired
736.75 Cavovarus deformity of foot, acquired
736.76 Other calcaneus deformity
736.79 Other Acquired:
pes not elsewhere classified
talipes not elsewhere classified

Hope this helps
