Had a patient in today (he was fine), but he enquired about his grandson (2y.o)
who has very sweaty, smelly feet. when socks are taken off they are saturated.
They have changed footwear, pure cotton socks...no better.
Has anyone heard of this in such a little one??
I am questioning sympathetic nervous system probs??
From what I have read so far, hyperhidrosis a the age of 2 isn't documented at all...But perhaps you can find an answer at the International Hyperhidrosis Society.
cheers

I thought the entire article was worth a read but a little snippet ........
Quote:
eccrine bromhidrosis may result from underlying metabolic or endogenous causes.
Quote:
Axillary bromhidrosis depends on apocrine function and therefore manifests exclusively after puberty. It occurs only rarely in the elderly population.
In contrast, eccrine bromhidrosis is more common than apocrine bromhidrosis during childhood, but it may occur at any age.
Hope it is helpful.
Regards,
Mrs. Google

Suffering a fondness for odd things.

Yet they grind exceeding small;
Though with patience he stands waiting,
With exactness grinds he all. ”
As the mother of an almost 2 year old, sometimes they are just very sweaty little people.
I'd be getting the run down on what they are like in all shoes. Are you seeing the sweaty beads in sandals etc.
Sometimes it is just the shoes, sometimes just the kids and their busy-ness of being toddlers. I'd be looking at what it is like throughout the whole year prior to worrying too much about it.

2 of my three children (the boys as it happens) had incredibly sweaty feet between 2 and 4 years, almost to rival pubescent teenage boys! Both have 'normal' feet at present, what puberty will bring who knows
Regarding your question, like Bug I would be inclined to look at the bigger picture of shoe wear overall, does the 2yo ever go bare foot? What is the ambient weather like? What material is/are the shoes made of?
Hi rarely seen a young child be it my own or many others over many years who do not have very sweaty feet.
Smell is often there as well.
many childrens shoes have alot of synthetic in them which I am surte exacerbates the problem.
Sorry do not have a solution, but maybe just normal?
Who says they smell? Have you had the pleasure first nose!
Cheers

Hello i have twin daughters (5yrs old) one of them suffers from tinea and i can almost wring out her socks daily. She has had this problem since the day she learnt to walk (14mnths old). I have an appointment with the Royal childrens Hospital in melb, Vic this month. I shall post the outcome of results as they may help others. Also on a few occasions her feet will be sweaty but her lips have turned blue and her hands are as cold as ice. Doctors have no explanation for this! I wonder if my daughter is strange? or is this a common problem?

Does anybody know of any Australian suppliers for the iontophoresis machines?
The link posted above is for english supplies although they do say they may be able to supply to other parts of the world - obviously wanting to keep the cost down though.
I haven't come up with much from a google search..
