Podiatry Arena members do not see these ads

Hello all!

I'm new to this forum and so far so good! There are a lot of interesting articles and discussions, so much information I don't think I will be able to handle it all in a lifetime! xD

I'm studying Podiatry ("Podología" in Spain) in the UEM (Universidad Europea de Madrid), and this is my last year (3º year). Yes here in Spain we become Podiatrist just after 3 years, isn't that funny?

Well, for some might be, for me... it's not. I don't think I'm going to be ready to treat patients efficiently with just 3 years of studies... that's why I am seeking to learn as much as I can from other sources (like this forum) and after I'm done with my degree I'll continue studying and learning by my own (I hope with the help of some colleagues too). I'd also love to travel to the USA or any other country where I can learn more and get better as a Podiatrist.

Here in the UK Podiatry is a 3 year course as well.
There's a lot to be said for experience, but the course gives you a good foundation to start practice. You'll probably find that you never stop learning - after many years of concentrating on my strengths and expanding my knowledge in areas of interest, I'm now starting to do the really difficult stuff: going back to the areas I found harder/less enjoyable and which I've side-stepped a little and refreshing/updating my knowlege.

Podiatry can be a very rewarding profession - if you put in the work needed to become a good (rather than just profficient) clinician.
After years and years on the job, one thing I have learned is a degree of humility: I don't know it all and I doubt I ever will!

Do you have your own clinic? How many years have you been working? I think next year when I finish my studies I'll work first for somebody else, I want to learn more from others who have experience before starting my own business... I don't think I am ready to work by myself without any help yet.

What did you do when you graduated? Did you work for others? Did you feel ready so as to open your own practice?... just after 3 years studying? I think 3 years is not enough... well, as you very well say... I doubt I will ever learn it all! xD

However, I'll try...
