We have a jokes thread, so thought a music thread is required. I saw Sam, Simon and Mark discussing their guitar´s. Mart and Kevin have discussed a Podiatry Anthem somewhere. Robert has said you can tell alot by the music they link to in their Posts.... So I though a new thread which people can list their 5 Favourate Rock songs. Links to You Tube are encouraged. Yes Simon you can put 5 U2 songs in if you want !!.

Niiiiice thread.

Don't know what the purests define as "rock" but here are mine.

Iron Man - Black Sabbath. Not the most melodic of songs but for sheer visceral emotion it can't be beat

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GECit4oSpbk

Don't Fear the Reaper, The HIM version (Blue oyster cult original is good too). For the guitar solo in the middle

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fYuQBfXaZd4

Fear of the Dark - Iron Maiden. For the changes in pacing Live versions better than album versions IMVHO

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PieS0zG228A

Evanescance - Bring me to Life. Because it is just so darn moving

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wr3APrUQ7jY

Re-arranged - Limp Bizkit. Because the "angry white boy" genre needs representing and because its so easy to relate to (for me)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9QWOc0HnItM

Looking forward to other peeps!

Too hard and changes by the day. So I'll give you my daily favourite, each day I remember to. Today's top-copy is for driving to:

Deep Purple- Highway Star, live version from the album "Made in Japan"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KgZSnAkQc4c

While your in driving mode have "speed king" by the same band
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Djwv...eature=related

Buy the album "Made in Japan" play it in your car, then speak nicely to the traffic officer who has just pulled you over as he says something like "please step out of the vehicle"...

Back tomorrow with something different.

The down load photo does tend to give it away, But I owe you a beer I guess. Good work that man .More music trivia as we go.

A bit from the bio of Joy Division.

Quote:
In August 1977, the band placed an advertisement in a music shop window seeking a replacement drummer. Stephen Morris, who had attended the same school as Curtis, was the sole respondent. Deborah Curtis, Ian's wife, stated that Morris "fitted perfectly" with the other men, and that with his addition Warsaw became a "complete 'family'".[17] In order to avoid confusion with the London punk band Warsaw Pakt, the band renamed themselves Joy Division in early 1978, borrowing their new name from the prostitution wing of a Nazi concentration camp mentioned in the 1955 novel The House of Dolls.[13][18] The group recorded another demo at Pennine Studios in December, and played their first gig as Joy Division on 25 January 1978 at Pip's Disco in Manchester.[19][20]

You see Wendy, you've got three AC/DC tracks in there and they are all post Bon Scott. You got to look back to tracks like "shot down in flames" "beating around the bush" "rosie" "let there be rock" bad boy boogie" "girls got rhythm".... need I go on.

Thin Lizzy- Live and dangerous- whole album

And if anyone mentions anything by Iron Maiden after Paul Di'anno left- they want ****ing- Phantom of the opera and Iron Maiden BTW , in fact the whole debut album. Bruce Dick never cut the mustard- he used to wear an executioners mask in Samson- very poor late '70's metal- still have a single by them somewhere. I've got my eye on you Isaacs.

In terms of covers U2 have covered songs throughout their career and continue to do so, you could be referring to The Clash or several others from this era- depends on your source of information.

Actually as a point of pedantry, by the time U2 became U2 as oppose to the Larry Mullen Band or The Hype- they were writing their own material and so weren't a "covers band" at all.

I just learnt something.Actually that was all new to me. I saw an interview with Bob of Boom Town Rats fame before he became Sir Bob. He said that when they 1st started out as a band they were doing Boom Town Rats covers and that they were so bad he had to ask them to stop. He then laughed and said now he tries to get them to play his songs.

Only two that get me into an altered state of consciousness? are ZZ Top's "Le Grange" and Pavarotti's (no one else's) "Nessum Dorna"!

Honourable mentions to Blind Willie Johnson, Son House and my favourite electric guitarist has always been Steve Morse!

I know. But if you're going country AND western, I'm going middle of the road.

I admit the AC/DC tracks are post Bon Scott however only had my CD collection to hand as vinyl up in attic "Rosie" was the 1st AC/DC track I owned but only able to choose 5 so had to stop somewhere - not included Whitesnake/Bruce Springsteen/Gillan Band/Deep Purple/Terravision etc etc......

Look at it as revision Wendy, go find your vinyl, re-listen to it, then tell me that Bon wasn't better. Moreover, tell me that the vinyl doesn't, somehow, feel better- that big 12" disc, the gatefold sleeve........

We'll have Kirby with his black light out before the day is done...
