Hi everyone.
My name is Dmitriy
I'm new here and I'd like to say I'm impressed by this site and its community.
I need your advice/help.

I have to prepare some report about current concept of the arches of the foot its structures and functions.
I've cheked pubmed and found just few articled with description of longitudinal arch and its dimensional parameters.
Can anybody tell me where I can find this information?

Do you agree that longitudinal and tranversal arch exist?
Are there any other conceptions of arches structure?
What anatomical structures are under load during the gate cycle

Thanks alot for any advice and excuse me for my english.

What you can say is this. Despite there being lengthy descriptions of it is many anatomical texts, there is rarely if ever an explicit explantion of its function. Explicitly what it does do is to reduce bending stresses during gait, but that is a bit of a cop-out. To understand it more fully, one has, as always, to think fourth dimensionally and go back to the phylogeny and the embryology. Here you willl see the long arch as being not one structure, but a unit of several sub-structures.

I published a fair bit on this perhaps 25 years ago; if anyone is interested, email me privately and I will send them the references. Rob

There are some very good papers from the 1950's that are still could be considered consistant with what is currently thought. These papers are by J.H Hicks. Pdf's can be found on this website in the biomechanics and foot orthosis area. At the top there is a thread about classic biomechanics papers.
