Hello All,
What in your experience is the success rate/ need for revision surgery after a tendon repair? Px is a 50 year old male, has bilateral HAV, obese. Currently wearing a velcro ankle brace in addition to orthoses, which relieves pain, awaiting surgical opinion. US showed complete tendon rupture with retraction.
Px mother in 70s, has undiagnosed PTTD,now fixed deformity, difficulty walking, has had knee surgery on affected side, which I believe was due to the PTTD. Her doctor told her "it's just arthritis" (!!)
Px does not want to end up with limited walking ability like his mother, but nervous about surgery too.
Your advice please!
(Aus, so orthopaedic surgeon will do op)
Cheers,
Kara

Hi Kara:
Can you be more specific?
The heading of your post is "rupture" but it sounds like PTTD.
What is the ROM of the STJ and ankle?
Muscle Strength?
How heavy is your patient?

If your patient has a progressive PTTD his prognosis differs from an acute rupture or non rupture PTTD with flexible ROM of the ankle and STJ vs rigid pes valgus, etc..........
