    I recently went to Craigs Bootcamp in Dublin and he mentioned that a "lab" in the US had made a review of the prescriptions that their clients ask for and found that 99% of prescriptions requested are covered by i think he said 95 different orthoses and that these can be mass manufactured and stored to meet the required order when it comes in lowering cost to less than $10.
    Casts or 3d Scan still need to taken by the practitioner ans given to the lab to ensure a match.

    That is very interesting from the patient's perspective. They could try 4-8 pairs of orthotics with different design parameters for less than the cost of seeing a podiatrist + custom orthotics. When I design an orthotic for a patient I find it very helpful to know what has not worked. You don't want to repeat someone else's failure.



    It shouldn't take an hour to design a pair of orthoses. I would hope the design software is good enough that when I ask for a 5 degree forefoot valgus intrinsic post, it should only take about 15 seconds to add that with the software. There are only so many design parameters that we would change from the default. Hopefully, the design process shouldn't take much longer than filling out the lab form (fully filling out the form and not saying use lab discretion.) If it takes longer than 5 minutes to design the orthosis from a filled prescription, the software needs upgrading.
