Ah, many thanks Robert for today's smile.

My smile yesterday was entirely due to one of last weeks nail surgery patients not understanding (or reading) her post op' advice.

Bilateral both Hallux partial nail avulsions. Went swimmingly. Discussed post op' redressings & provided with supplies. All good.

Arrived yesterday for 1 week review with MASSIVE Beano & Dandy sized dressings both big toes!

Yes, you guessed it. She had indeed understood the initial advice: 'Do not remove initial dressing. If any bleed through place an additional dressing over bleed through on 1st dressing & elevate feet.'

Advice leaflet & verbal advice stated. 'On day after, wash/bathe/shower as usual. Leave dressing on while washing to prevent soap or debris entering wound.'

Now the important bit.... REMOVE WET DRESSING, rinse with warm salt water & reapply a fresh dressing. As discussed post op & also on advice leaflet.

Nope. This lady had bathed daily, rinsed wet dressing with salty water & reapplied an additional one over the top!

Trying to help the lady understand I made the analogy. If your mum told you to wear clean pants daily, would you be wearing 7 pairs by the end of the week?

She was very happy with the single melolite applied today.

    Bless.

    Regards,

    Mandy.
