Hi all ,
Interesting foot today on sixty year old lady,the extensor tendon to her 4th toe had disappeared sometime in the last 2 months without her experiencing any trauma?

 

Hi Baby Feet. Any pics would be a bonus. Has this situation occurred bilaterally?

No sorry no pics. But I have sent her off for an ultra sound. And no not bilateral. I'll let you know what the US finds.

sorry about the delay in results, she only had the the US done yesterday.
"Complete rupture of 4th extensor tendon over 4th MPJ. Retraction of proximal tendon end can be seen over the distal4th metatarsal. All other tendons appear unremarkable."
Do you think it sounds promising for repair of the tendon since it hasn't retracted too far? Still none the wiser as to how it ruptured , though good news all other tendons are unremarkable.

I'd say the prognosis would be good for surgical repair of the tendon. Any remarkable medical history/conditions to report? Did she experience any discomfort at all whilst walking/standing? Did the patient come to see you regarding this issue?

In March 2013 she had bunion surgery and Weil osteotomies of 2,3 and 4. Could the rupture be related to the surgery this far down the track? She was unaware of any change, she had experienced no pain and discomfort and had just come for her regular general treatment.
