Default Practice Management System

Hi everyone,

I would really appreciate some advice & opinions.

I have a small pod practice in Melbourne Australia and need an EXCELLENT Practice Management system that does it all! Am I asking too much????

I know this has been asked before in these forums, but I am still really unclear on options! I need a system that allows us to make appointments, progress notes, feedback letters, finances, is web based so I can access it from home and remotely, and ideally will allow us to process Medicare/DVA clients as well.

Such a system does not seem to exist! The closest I can find is Front Desk which claims to do it all but is not web based and costs a small fortune in my opinion... Am I just unrealistic in my expectations that such a system does not exist in this day and age??

All advice greatly appreciated fellow pods... :

Frontdesk will do most of what you have asked except you would better with finance software such as MYOB as well. To access the software remotely you could always use a remote desktop software like Logmein or similar.

Hi, Front Desk can easily be set up for remote access using a hosted server which is not that expensive for the basics. Try www.hostus.com.au in Adelaide. I am running 7 sites with it and accessing it from pc’s all over the world, ipads, iphones and lap tops and even desk top pc’s!
As far as the cost goes you get what you pay for and it’s worth noting that the support and ongoing training fees are very competitive. Feel free to contact me for a chat about it.
Cheers
Stuart

My practice uses Intracore which is completely web based, I combine it with MYOB for my BAS but it does everything for you. I would highly recommend it.
Another newer competitior to the market is cliniko but they are still building medicare claiming in so at this point it is a little behind in it's features however it is cheaper.
www.intracore.com.au and www.cliniko.com.au

You could have a look at PracticePal which is well suited to Podiatry. I've been using it for over two years. It is good at handling digitital photographs, is web-only and works well with Firefox and Linux Ubuntu (after many a decade I've removed all the Microcrap from my computers!). www.practicepal.co.uk I believe that the developer has spent quite some time in Australia and has adapted the system for some of your insurance billing http://www.practicepal.com.au/
It has a low entry cost, but for all the bells and whistles you do have to start paying (that's life)!

Regards
Gary

Does anyone using the web based software have any concerns about the info being hacked for identity theft? I know the companies involved would obviously ave systems in place, but there is always that risk. Discussing my trial of Clinko with a px yesterday & they stated they would be concerned about their details online.
My main concern is if the internet crashes/ someone digs up the cable ( which happens here every so often) you can't access px notes.

Joel from Cliniko here. There is a risk of any systems security (web-based or not). In a lot of cases web-based systems are more secure. If you have all of your data stored on a computer in your practice, then all someone needs to do is gain access to that computer and they can get everything. If it's web-based, the data is going to be stored in a much more secure location (well hopefully it will be, it depends on the provider). You can see details of Cliniko's security here http://www.cliniko.com/security

I know it can be a scary concept, particularly because cloud computer and web-based systems are fairly new, but have you ever heard of internet banking being compromised? or any other healthcare practice management system? Nothings perfect, but I think web-based in more secure and not less.

As for other comments in this thread, we (Cliniko) are pretty new but are growing very quickly. We have been fortunate to have a lot of Podiatrists using our software and we have received great feedback to help us improve it even further. We release updates pretty much every week and have no plans to slow down. If you have any questions you can reach me directly at joel@cliniko.com.

Thanks.

We have this question come up all the time as a popular concern with new and existing clients of ours but the truth is as Joel states, your data is often more secure in a cloud-based hosting environment than anywhere else.

Regarding lack of access due to internet interruption, we provide solutions to prevent that from happening if your phone isn't capable of running applications or you often have poor reception.

A lot of our clinics that run more than 2 or 3 separate locations have a mixtures of cloud-based and land-based systems that synchronise with each other, so they can communicate with each other in the event that one of their sites have hardware or internet failures.

But back on topic to the OP: It's down to personal taste and personal preference. So with that in mind all I can say is give our free trial a go and see what you think if you have not already. It is hard to make your mind up until you know exactly what is out there.

Cheers
Ryan
