    Dear All,

Just now , 13.50 on radio 2 the Jeremy Vine show they discussed this.

Also had a professor of Rheumatology discussing what it is , its aetiology, and current t/t's.

Acute episode initially pain killers and or steroids.

Raise leg and foot and use ICE !!!!!!

HMMMMMMMM I always thought that the uric acid crystals came out of solution at extremities eg hands feet wrists and ankles when it is cold. extremities are cooler/colder than the body core temperature.

So to cool the extremity down even further would cause further crystals to form.

So the t/t is to increase the temperature of the extremity and the crystals will return to solution . it is the only inflammatory condition where heat not cold is the t/t.

There is still a great reluctance to start Allopurinol except when all other t/ts have failed.

One listener said that they have 2 tea spoons of Cider Vinegar per day and this has been MAGIC.

Listening to other listeners descriptions of the pain and discomfort is somewhat disturbing.

Advice is still change diet, cut out certain foods and alcohol and coffee and anything that you enjoy.

My poor old Dad has had it since he was 21 and is now 88. Still on Allopurinol daily to manage it. He stills enjoys a beer everyday with his meals.

Still a fun condition for those poor sufferers.
