I was just on the Leisure Trends (USA) live webinar.

I was surprised to learn the size of the insole add-on market for selling them with running shoes etc

In the last 12 months the market grew 26% to $253 million!! ... no sign of the rhetoric and propaganda from the fan boys that minimalism was going to put an end to that market!

It probably increased that market after the injuries from wearing the minimalist runners

Also according to Leisure Trends minimalist shoes sales are only at $3 million for Sept

  4. I'm getting more and more patients asking the question: How are your "orthotics" any different than the ones I can buy off the shelf at the running shoe or drug store? Is anyone else hearing that question more than usual lately?

I most often use the pre-made vs prescription eyeglass analogy to help explain it. Maybe I need a better visual or written aid to save me the time and explain things better?

    Aloha,

Any added component below the foot structure during active gait is an Orthosis if it changes the biomechanics and kinematics of gait.

So the biggest question is what shoe housing are you using to enclose and stabilize your orthosis?

A soft deformable foam based shoe?

How does that hold the correction that you hold so dear?

If i put a $400 custom corrective device in a pair of deforming EVA or PU shoes may it be compaired to dispensing prescriptive eyeglasses opaqued with patroleum jelly. ??

Your shoes are integral part of the orthosis.

    Mahalo,
    Steve
