    Hi all,
I'm just wondering how a NZ-trained podiatry student can become a Surgeon? I'm very interested in this field and would like to know the educational sequence.
e.g. Bachelor of HSc (Pod) 3yrs + Clinical Masters (Pharmacology) 2yrs [unavailable yet in NZ? but available in Australia]
    versus
Bachelor of HSc (Pod) 3yrs + Hons. 1yr + Clinical Masters (Pharmacology) 2yrs

    =
Entry into a UK or Australian based PhD or Clinical Masters in Surgery??? University websites seem to not be very insightful in Australia or the UK about postgraduate possibilities into surgery or the required studies to do it.
    Thanks all - I'm a newbie!

    Hi there

I am not sure if you are practicing in NZ or not? If so, you should try to contact the NZ College of Podiatric Surgeons...they have no website, and I can't help you with an address of contact #. Try APodC?

In Australia, the Australasian College of Podiatric Surgeons administers surgical training. The pathway to becoming a podiatric surgeon is in the Training Document found on the ACPS website. However it is under review and not available for download just at the moment.

    However, the previous pathway was:
    1. Undergraduate podiatry degree
    2. 2 years clinical experience
    3. Master of Podiatry degree (including core theory subjects such as medicine, advanced pharmacology, radiology, pathology etc)
    4. ACPS Practical Training Program (3-5 years)
    5. Practical and Theory Examinations leading to Fellowship of the ACPS
    6. Fellowship enables Commonwealth accreditation for the purposes of private health insurance

I have a feeling that the NZ approach is nowhere near as lengthy.

Hope this is of some help

Is there any form of reciprocity between NZ & UK surgical training programs?
