Recently my friend was playing tennis and injured her right heel, however now her left heel is getting painful too. This was five weeks ago and the pain still sometimes presents when playing sports when the right heel comes in contact with the ground. I gave gel inserts to wear for both heels and also advised on rest, ice compression etc. There has been no x-ray carried out but I am now increasingly worried about an AT rupture. I would appreciate any feedback on this case as I am in my final year and biomechanics and sports injuries is not my strongest point. Thanks. :)

Hi im also just a student so hope your exams went ok :)

I think more information may be required though, for example:

where on the heel is she getting the pain? as wouldn't an AT rupture more likely to be in the posterior aspect and not the inferior?

Have you performed a full assessment? is it painful when palpated or only certain motions?

Is there anything about the way she stands or walk that would suggest a cause of the heel pain.

Sorry if these points are not too relevant, but they are kind of things I would tend to ask myself

kind regards

Ben
