Glad to join foot forum as I am a doctor with metatarsalgia. Look forward to being involved with Podiatry Arena.

Hi Pauldo:
Welcome.
Sounds painful.
Self diagnosis?

Steve

Hi Dr. Arbes:

Not a self diagnosis. Saw highly rated podiatrist in Philly who dx. and used different modalities but did not really help. I think I need x-ray to see alignment. I do have very high arches that seem to be getting even higher because of muscle weakness. I am not a podiatrist but do derm research. Appreciate any advice.

Hi Pauldo:

As you may know, the term metatarsalgia is not very specific; like telling someone they have dermatitis.

Pain in and or around a metatarso-phalangeal joint can be quite variable, not only as to what is actually painful but also what is the underlying etiology.

Anything from plantar plate inflammation or tears, tenosynovitis, osteochrontritis, capsulitis, tendinitis, mononeuritis, on and on ad nauseum.

As you are aware, proper treatment always begins with a proper diagnosis.

If you saw a "highly rated" podiatrist and you are still in pain, perhaps he is not as good as you think! (sorry, couldn't resist that) An X Ray should have been taken on your initial visit.

Hope that helps (even the tongue in cheek part)

Steve

Hi Dr. Steve:

You are right - he may be highly rated but he did not dx, my problem. Metatarsalgia is kind of like eczema - a waste basket diagnosis. Who would you see if you were in the Philadelphia metropolitan area ??? Appreciate advice.

Best,
Dr. Paul

Pauldo asked: "Who would you see if you were in the Philadelphia metropolitan area ???"

My old girl friend Lisa!!!! I got my BA from Rider University and she was from Philadelphia. I can't quite recall her last name, but I do recall a couple of things about her.........

You can visit http://www.footphysicians.com and search the phily area. I would choose a FACFAS.

Good luck, let us know how it turns out.

Steve
