Hello,
I have been qualified for the past 15 years, graduating from what used to be the Chelsea School of ChiropodyPodiatry. I currently hold the post of chief podiatrist for biomechanics with Canterbury & Coastal PCT which employs 60 podiatrists. We have an orthotics laboratory and currently make orthoses the traditional way using plaster of paris models. More recently in my private practice I have been using Cad/Cam (Sharpe Shape with additional software for an improved finish) devices with I feel have improved compliance and results. I have also piloted a population (35) of our NHS patients, (18 returns) with pain scales dropping from ave. 6.5/10 to 2.5/10. I have read with interest the discussions in your archives on various systems and can see that there is a wide variation in views on how things should be done. I have hesitated for some years waiting for a system sophisticated enough to replace our traditional methods of manufacture and now feel the time is right to take the plunge. My PCT has agreed in principle to spend the money and we will probably go ahead with the new system in April 06. If anyone reading thinks we are making a mistake I'd love to hear from them!
