Hello my name is Louise and I am hoping to apply to study Podiatry as a mature student in Sept 2009.

I am hoping to secure a job as a podiatry assistant for the next year.

I live just a few miles east of Stratford Upon Avon. I can work full or part time and am flexible in the times that i can work eg.evenings/days/weekends.

Please let me know if you can help, even on a temporary basis.

Many thanks in advance.

Hi Louise,

Podiatry assistants

This page describes the role of podiatry assistant, and the entry requirements for the role.

The job
Podiatry assistants, are also known as chiropody or foot-care assistants and are responsible for giving the foot care and treatment under the supervision of a registered podiatrist. Work includes cutting toenails and applying dressings and some clerical work such as booking appointments. Staff working in more senior podiatry support roles often work at assistant practitioner level, and will undertake more advanced work, such as giving footwear advice and other duties.

Patients include elderly people, those with foot injuries, those having nail surgery or laser treatment and people with diabetes who are prone to circulation or sensation problems in their feet.

Podiatry assistants as part of their training and development study a variety of subjects such as skin and nail pathology, microbiology, material medica, inflammation, anatomy, circulation, podiatric conditions and nail operations.

Entry requirements
Entry requirements into support roles will vary depending on the level of role. Applicants should check the person specification for job vacancies that they are interested in to ensure they meet the requirements. Person specifications and job descriptions can be found alongside vacancy information on the NHS Jobs website.

Good luck.
