The accidental saboteur - 3 small ‘sins’ that undermine your business in a big way
Quote:
Whether you are a leader or an employee, you want your business to succeed. After all, your livelihood depends on it.

But the vast majority of companies — even vibrant organizations that operate with little noticeable dysfunction — are filled with saboteurs. That’s right. Employees at every level do small, seemingly insignificant things to sabotage their success.

And even the best leaders do these things. They may not seem like major sins, but their cumulative effect can be destructive. One chocolate may not blow your diet, but grabbing a handful every time you walk by the candy dish on your way to the water cooler or restroom — well, the bill eventually comes due.

Here are three common sins committed by accidental saboteurs:
1. Relentless negativity
2. Creeping we/they-ism
3. Giving low performers a pass

Of course, most people sabotage their existence unless they are completely egotistical. On so many occassions I have had opportunities for "success" yet I have habiyually sabotaged the situation. I have lived long enough to notice that the most talented of practitioners are to a certain degree humble. It does not sit well with me those who talk themselves up (or at least they have to talk themselves up). I have one million times more respect and faith in those that say, "I'm not sure"
" What do you think"
" I made the wrong call"
i don't believe I am a great leader but I do have a vision. It takes time to believe in ones self and I believe it is through adversity and not egotism that we can overcome self sabotage and encourage and mentor others. They just have to be like minded and wiling to listen rather than profess to know it all.
Cheers, Lorraine

Lorraine look at the number 1 sin that undermine's your business:

1. Relentless negativity

Seriously, this is a great post. Most people really do have to constantly re-examine themselves to make sure they are not commiting any of these sins in their practice.
I agree with you as well Lorraine. As a resident I saw at least one Attending who would rather risk his patient's health rather than admitting that he did not know something. I often refer out to other specialists if I feel that this is how my patient's needs are best served.
