I'd highly recommend The Big Over Easy, and Jasper Fforde's other books, they are real delight. Fans of British detective novels and tv shows, and Douglas Adams fans, will especially enjoy them.

In this one there is a wonderful description of a frieze in the reception hall of Mr Spongg's (a Chiropody mogul) mansion which depicts, on a large scale, various nymphs and other classical creatures suffering from a variety of foot ailments - you have to read it to appreciate it!

But I wouldn't call him a children's author?
