A BAHRAINI man arrested on suspicion of burglary died in the Salmaniya Medical Complex (SMC) early yesterday morning.
Ali Jaffer Mohammed Malallah, a 55-year-old diabetic, had been taken to the SMC from custody in Hoora, with gangrene in his foot, said sources.
He had been due to appear in court on a burglary charge this coming Sunday.
Mr Malallah, of Mahooz, was taken to hospital after he complained of weakness and perspiration.
"Since he had high diabetes he was immediately admitted and put on a special diet," said sources.
Police had been on guard outside the ward since he was admitted on March 16.
He died at around 4.45am.
"He was found to have high blood sugar and pressure and doctors were trying to bring it under control," said sources.
"But since he was having the habit of over-eating he was not happy with his diet in the hospital and he was creating a nuisance over that issue," said sources.
