Default 'Free Range' Maggots vs Enclosed Maggots

Podiatry Arena members do not see these ads
Hi all

Am currently looking through a metalib programme and other sources and currently cannot find any information comparing the two.

If anyone is unsure, 'free range' maggots are the sterile maggots that are placed onto e.g. a diabetic foot ulcer individualy whereas enclosed maggots are seen in what looks like a tea-bag containing biofoam (eg. zoobiotic.co.uk)

If anyone knows of a paper(s) comparing the effectiveness of the two could the post a link or whatnot

Thanks all

c.perrin

Free range are best if the wound has hidden depths, fissures, sinuses and tunnels because the maggots will clear the necrotic tissue from these spaces.

Those confined within the' tea-bag' cannot perform this function and are best for shallow wounds with defined perimeters and flat base layers.

Enter Zoobiotics into a Google search and follow the link to Zoobiotics Ltd. A list of studies is offered.
