Default Adductus quinti, and curly toes

have a 14 year old booked in for an appointment next week by her mother. she described her daughters feet ,and it sounds like she has bilateral adductus quinti, and curly toes of the 2nd and 3rd digits. gp was not interested. what if anything could be done for her? apparently she is wearing sensible shoes but the 5th digits are causing her some pain when she wears shoes etc. any suggestions appreciated. "she is wearing sensible shoes but the 5th digits are causing her some pain when she wears shoes"

Make sure they bring those shoes with them when they come, is the pain in the 5th because to shoe is not deep enough for the curled 5th going under or not wide enough because the curled 5th pip joint goes outward?

A better fitting shoe wont change the condition but will relieve the pain

Hi Viki:
I have found that there is quite a spectrum of severity with "curly toes"....
If they are not too bad (and at 14) you can certainly try stretching, taping.
If she has an overlapping 5th digit, surgery may be the only viable treatment.

LEt us know what your examination reveals.

if the digit is still flexable then something like strapping or an ottoform may be a first step conservative treatment, with view for a more surgical option should this not be effective
