I am treating a 57 year old diabetic with an ulcer sub 3rd mt Left foot.A wound culture revealed klebsiella pneumoniae with enterobacter.Isn't klebsiella an odd pathogen to find in a wound?I have not seen much of it.Any experiences would be helpful.
By the way, both organisms are sensitive to Cipro, amongst others.
I did a lit search on this a few years ago and, if I recall correctly, Klebsiella was reported as being found in infected diabetic foot wounds >10 or so years ago in India, Asia, etc with some frequency .... but only very rarely in other countries. More lately Klebsiella has been reported with increased frequency in all sorts of infections in patients with diabetes, so not surprised it turning up more in foot infections.
