Very interesting article in the June issue of Podiatry Today in which a podiatrist dismissed a patient from his clinic for making racist comments to his reception staff:

I have had to deal with a similar, though not so serious, situation.I'm what most would describe as 'cuddly' and happily divorced. I make no secret of it and am well known locally through my church. I also worked for 2 years on A&E as a nurse so I'm pretty thick skinned.
But, I was lost for words when a elderly male patient told me "You want to get out and exercise more and shift some of that fat. no wonder your still single, you're no use to anyone (man) like that" This was a totally unprovoked vicious comment, nothing that had been said that evening had any bearing. I complained to the Practice Manager, and I have refused to treat him again. He is Diabetic so the Hospital Clinic can have him, they have some nice large male pods there.
In this day and age no woman should have to tolerate remarks like that, unfortunately with no witnesses there wasn't much I felt I could do. I did write it in detail on his notes and now he is currently trying to find another chiropodist I will gladly forward a copy....

what i miss most about private practice....telling "painful" patients TO GO ELSEWHERE.......
