Educating Rita (film) & James Herbert's, The Rats (had to read it in one sitting). Just couldn't put it down. It was the 1st book I read without any pictures in. I was 9.

Ah Simon Mr. John Irving. My favorite was also by him, The Cider House Rules.

Favourite books: Complete Richard Hannay stories (John Buchan), Boy in Stripped Pyjamas & On the Edge (Richard Hammond's account after his crash - Top Gear fans in this house).

Sound of Music; kids favorite, on video, always. Book, James Mitchner; The Drifters; I knew most of the main characters. Spike Milligan; Hitler, my part in his downfall resonates.
