TOWSON, Md. -- A podiatrist with a suspended license was sentenced Thursday to 45 days home detention for billing insurance companies as if he were still licensed, billing them for drugs that were never dispensed and selling pain killers.
The attorney general's office said Norman Greenberg pleaded guilty Thursday to felony insurance fraud, felony theft and conspiracy to distribute narcotics. He must also pay $40,000 in restitution.
According to court documents, Greenberg conspired with Richard Halpern, a former pharmacist in Landsdowne, to fraudulently bill insurance companies for pharmaceuticals that Halpern never dispensed.
Also, from 1992 through 1999, Greenberg illegally sold the prescription painkiller percocet to several people.
