Podiatry Arena members do not see these ads
Many of you know Jim and his acheivements in rheumatoid arthritis and the foot reseach, the in-roads he has made with the gaining of the MRC fellowship - all of which have had major spin-offs and benefits for Podiatry.

Now its time to get behind Jim's next adventure - the London Marathon on 17 April .

He is doing it for charity - lets get behind him and donate here: http://www.justgiving.com/woodburn

GO JIM

Default Training Update!

Thanks to everyone who has sponsored me so far!

Training Update- The whole of January has been cold, rainy and windy. Most of the road running I'm doing is in hilly areas so the constant wind (nothing to do with the diet, honest!) is a hassle. I just cant seem to get warm and relaxed in the long runs early morning and late evening!

I'm following a recommended training programme and it seems to be going well. I'm surprised how benefical speed training and hill runs are when it comes to the longer flat runs, which are now at 13-14 miles building by 1-2 miles every week. The programme also includes 2 1/2 marathons, a 16 mile paced training run and a 20-miler, 4 weeks prior to London. I'm pretty much training alone and the self-motivation is holding up so far. The odd doubts creep in on the long runs and now and again there is an overwhelming desire to stop and catch a taxi home!

No injury worries so far although I've had a bit of numbness in the right plantar forefoot region on long uphill runs. I've changed shoes from Sacouny Omni-grids with medial control to a neutral ASIC shoe which seems to have helped, although I think the ASICS are a bit tight across the forefoot. Trying running shoes on in a shop is useless. Weight is coming down which helps!

So keep the sponsorship coming in and thanks again! I'll update you in a few weeks or so and of course any advice is welcome!
Best wishes,
Jim
