with this inevitable onset viral pandemic, i've heard that (australian) health admin are considering podiatrists (among other allied health) as the 3rd line? of vaccine administerers .. after the medicos go down and then the nurses what's left of allied health will be utilised! ... and i thought i couldn't go "above the knee"

In NZ at the CIT there was well apportioned foot orthotics casting and manufacture rooms which had previously been the domain of the Orthotics and Prosthetics program before it was moved away. Also the Podiatry Department had twin surgical theatres, medical imaging and small tool sterilising facilities as well as rest rooms which was the envy of the adjacent military camp, who had no such amenities. In the event of a national disaster the Podiatry department was designated at the main medical facility for the valley. The worse case scenario was Wellington would no longer exist. During the big scale disaster exercises, the orthotics room became the mortuary and the car park, a heliport.

I have to say the emergency personnel were much tidier than the pod students who reguarly left the orthotic rooms in a dreadful mess. :-)
