Default Re: Change of name in Toronto

Here is the full Press Release:
Canadian Federation of Podiatric Medicine supports name change of diploma at the Michener Institute to include Podiatric Medicine
Quote:
The Canadian Federation of Podiatric Medicine
says the name change of the diploma at the Michener Institute to include
Podiatric Medicine is an important step in the evolution of the profession of
chiropody and podiatry in Canada.
The Michener Institute of Applied Health Science changed the name of the
Chiropody diploma to include a reference to Podiatric Medicine. Graduates,
upon completion of Michener's Chiropody program, will now be granted with a:

"Graduate Advanced Diploma in Podiatric Medicine (D.Pod.M.)"

This decision was made after significant consultation with faculty,
students, alumni and professional associations and received final approval by
the Board of Governors on January 20, 2009.
It was agreed that this new designation better reflects the current scope
of practice and curriculum. This re-designation will take effect for the 2009
graduating class.
"Over the past 25 years the profession of chiropody and podiatry has
advanced, one small step at a time to what it is today," says Stephen Hartman,
CEO of the Canadian Federation of Podiatric Medicine. "The name change is a
significant milestone in the profession."
"Every day we are faced with questions from the public about the terms
chiropody and podiatry in Canada. This confusion about the profession takes
away from the importance of footcare in Canada," adds Hartman. "This name
change will reduce this confusion and aid the public in recognizing who
qualified foot specialists are in Canada."
This small step will help to put the focus back on where it is intended,
foot health for the residents of Canada.

The Graduate Advanced Diploma in Podiatric Medicine at the Michener
Institute is a three-year, 7 semester, full time program. Individuals must
have a completed an undergraduate Bachelors degree from a recognized
University to be eligible for the program. It is the only English speaking
program for the profession of chiropody/podiatry in Canada. For more
information on the program visit www.michener.ca.

The CFPM represents chiropodists and podiatrists from across Canada in
the provinces of British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Ontario, Nova Scotia, New
Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Yukon and the North West Territories.
