Default Reimbursement for palliative foot care

Podiatry Arena members do not see these ads
hello, I would like to ask the situation regarding the reimbursement of palliative care in various countries. Now, I am living in Japan and nurses have started providing palliative care here. We will have a visit from National Health Agency next week and they are interested in how palliative care is reimbursed, the qriteria for reimbursement and fee per visit (exam, callus and nail debridement) for full price and the price if reimbursed in various countries. I have searched internet, but I could not find the appropriate site. I would appreciate if anyone could tell me the examples of fee per visit from your country and the reference of it. Thank you.

This is a difficult question to answer, as it varies enormously from country to country - and practice to practice, and health system to health system.

Here in Australia, podiatry patients may be seen under some form of government funding (Eg Veterans Affairs, Medicare) for certain podiatry services, or they may visit a private podiatrist and claim the fee through private health insurance.

The fee the podiatrist charges for private patients is not set, but determined by each individual podiatrist. However there are set fees for public funded services, and this might be your best guide.

Currently in Australia, the scheduled fee for a standard consultation (20mins) is AU$55.05, for which the government will rebate 85% through Medicare. For private patients, podiatrists will often charge anywhere from AU$40-100.00 for a standard consultation, depending on location (eg inner capital city vs small regional town). This fee is often based on practice overheads etc, and private health insurance will cover a predetermined amount of that, depending on the insurer.

For Veterans Affairs patients, the following DVA List of Podiatry Fees might be helpful to pass on to your government.

Each health system is quite unique though, as you can appreciate...it really depends on wether it is a private or public funded service, and the influence of health insurance.

Hope this helps, and good luck getting podiatry more established in Japan!

LL

Default Thank you very much, LL

Thank you so much, LL.
I knew this was very difficult questions, but I just wanted to give examples to let officers know foot care is reimbursed outside of Japan for those who need it for medically. I am going to give examples of medicare from US, but what you provided me in your response is just perfect to reinforce US situation, and inform them US is not the only country doing it. I will check into the website you provided me. It will be a long way for us to inform the public on the importance of footcare, but I would like to start with what I can do. Thank you so much again for your time.
