Podiatry Arena members do not see these ads
Hello All
Just wondering if anyone has heard of, or uses black tea soaks for the treatment of macerated feet/interdigital maceration?
If anyone does, or knows the theory behind it, please let me know!??
Thanks GFF

GFF

All tea comes from the same plant: Camellia sinesis. Different blends such as green, oolong, and black are obtained by the way the leaves are dried. Herbal teas are made from different dried plant leaves and flowers such as mint, chamomile, rosehip, and hibiscus.

Tea is a natural antioxidant and rich in vitamins C and E. Tannic acid that helps clean the skin and inhibit growth of odour causing bacteria. Tannic acid may give antipuritic properties (but may be enhanced with the cold soak) and tea has astringent properties.

Compresses with tea infusions are well know and thought to have various actions see the following:

I'm not sure about I/D maceration, but I have had some good reports from ironman triathletes who want to toughen up their feet prior to racing. The individual that springs to mind was so happy that she didn't blister for the first time during a long course tri- seemed to decrease sweating. I often recommend it as an alternative to potassium permangenate soaks.
