A colleague of mine in Edinburgh a decade back did a pilot project where he measured HAV before and after surgery then recorded client's QOL post surgery. I cannot recall the actual results but there was significant reoccurance of lateral deviation of the hallux post surgery, yet almost all subjects reported feeling better post recovery. These finding would concur with the research.
