ABC30 are reporting: Fresno Doctor in Jail After Misconduct with Teen Patient
Quote:
A longtime Fresno doctor is in jail on Monday, after an investigation led to charges of sexual misconduct involving at least one patient.
Matthew Sciaroni is a podiatrist in Fresno. According to court records, he's accused of fondling at least one teenage girl who visited him for an ingrown toenail.
Doctor Sciaroni was led away in handcuffs from his northeast Fresno office. A warrant for his arrest was issued after a criminal investigation revealed the doctor was inappropriately handling his patients.
He's facing two felony counts of lewd acts upon a child and one misdemeanor count of sexual battery.
According to court records, Sciaroni treated a teenage patient for an ingrown toenail, but told her the infection could spread. The patient was about 15 years old when she visited Sciaroni.
The reports state "Sciaroni told her (patient) he needed to check her lymph nodes for infection. Sciaroni would check her front underwear line and just below."
The patient also told investigators that Sciaroni told her the infection could move up to her breasts. The patient claims at that time the doctor again touched her inappropriately.
According to the California Medical Board this is the first time Sciaroni's been under investigation. He was put on probation for sexual misconduct in 2000 for an incident that happened at his Firebaugh office. That probation ended in 2005.
Sciaroni could face punishment beyond jail time. He could lose his medical license for the latest incident if the board of podiatric medicine decides it's warranted.
Sciaroni's office was closed early on Monday. He is in the Fresno County jail. His bail has been set at $101K.
ABC have updated this story: Official Complaints Have Been Filed Against Local Foot Doctor
Quote:
Official complaints have been filed against a Fresno podiatrist accused of sexually assault during examinations.
Documents from the State Medical Board show four separate incidents where a patient claims to have been assaulted by Dr. Matthew Sciaroni when she went in for a foot examination.
Action News first told you about the accusations last week, when Sciaroni was arrested at his office.
A 15-year old former patient says she was touched inappropriately by Sciaroni during an office visit. Since then Action News has been contacted by 3 other women who claim the doctor fondled them as well.
ABC have a new update: Podiatrist Accused of Molestation Can See Female Patients Again
Quote:
05/29/2007 - A Fresno judge is now allowing a local podiatrist to once again see female patients. Doctor Matthew Sciaroni was in court on Tuesday. The foot doctor is accused of molesting several female patients while examining them in his Fresno office. The judge appointed a registered nurse to chaperon the doctor during female exams. Sciaroni will be back in court in July for his trial.
watching this case against Dr. S., as a medical assistant from fresno I know for a fact there are more than a few podiatrist's who except Medi-cal! If there was any misconduct where was the mother or father? i'm sure NO Dr. would ever concider seeing a patient with out a resposible gaurdian present in the room . If this was all done without a parent and or gaudian the parents should be put on trial. what mother or father would want there child to be treated without their concent? without their knowledge of exactly what was going on at all times.that's like leaving your child in the middle of an intersection to play!I smell a scam I hope this Dr is found innocentn the first day of trial. I'm sure this Dr. dosent make much $ especially seeing Medi-Cal patients. :p
Mita-you're correct, the doctor is not the only Podiatrist that accepts Medi-cal. Further, the mother was in the room during all examinations, as was the doctors' chaperone, (either in the room, or just outside looking in, as she testified). The mother is a convicted felon for insurance fraud, and the daughter, after turning 18 y.o., was soliciting on Craigslist as an "escort". All the other "victims" continued to seek care from him after the purported misconduct, a fact not lost on the jury that only took < 5 hours to acquit. The Medical Board investigator that arrested the doctor, Brandon Shoemaker, has been sued before for false arrest and defamation of character while working for the City of Selma, and was let go from the Medical board after a year or less. The doctor was investigated before, but was found "guilty" only of inadequate charting.
