I know that most of you have been asked by the older & less able patients to trim their finger nails? I know legally we can't do it as "Pods", however it seems pretty sensible for me to help someone out (as a friend, not a Pod) perhaps we should change legislation to allow for such an intervention, as many nurses and carers will not cut fringernails / treat for fungal infections and such, and often the Pod is assumed to be able / responsible to do it.
It not a legal issue, more one for the insurers.
Anyone can cut anyone elses finger nails, but if an injury is caused, as it is not part of "usual podiatric practice" your insurer may not cover you.

NZ has yet to develop a litigous culture comparable to some countries.To legislate the cutting of fingernails would, I suspect, just invite the further development of legal overkill.
Clients that request fingernail care, in my experience, are grateful to recieve it. They often live alone and have attendant disability.
Not sure how it's "not legal" I don't promote myself as a hand carer. I've even been known to cut my kids fingernails.
That Nurses and carers can't cut finger or toenails is at times an "Urban Myth" of convenience at the clients expense.
