Dear All,

here i am freezing to death in so called sunny Sydney living in and working in your freezing houses and buildings and admiring some of the most impressive chill blains that i have ever seen.

Had to send two poor souls to their GP as they were pre ulcerative even had to send one patient as she was Hypothermic. Enquiries into home and heating revealed that old double brick fridge (sorry house) with no heating other than electric breezer (heater does not describe it) and plenty of blankets and clothes as she and her husband freeze to death in their kitchen as this is the EASIEST ?????? room of the house to heat.

This really has surprised me as i believed that every body in Sydney had the luxury of never being below 25C and that one was never cold unless you went to the ski fields.

I never saw rain let alone snow in Neighbours and home and away. Home and away was filmed not too far from here.

So what other surprises does Sydney have to offer this new 457 visa ( i am not an indian muslim terrorist ) pod.

Yeah your traffic.

But seriously the number of cold and cyanotic feet in the patients has surprised me. Also the severity of the chilling evident.

Thank god for my boily bot and flanellette sheets and two duvet's or DOONA's as they are called here.

I really must find a belly warmer to help with warmth in my pit.

regards David

Don't forget to rub our noses in it when you are enjoying your Christmas day on the beach over the "Barbie".

We have had floods here in the North of England (Gods Country). Last week the Twenty20 Cricket at Durhams Riverside was abandoned before play!

You'll forget your chilblains when the weather turns to 35+ degrees

Well, there's your problem - you are in Sydney! Melbourne is the home of 'Neighbours' , best restaurants, coffee, shopping and sport capital of OZ. But, I do have to admit, we ARE actually getting winter this year (it's currently 8oC), after the past few mild ones and yes, along come the EPs!

Sydney has the politest drivers in Australia but WA is the place to be, climate like the Mediterranean and we dont get rain for months and months and months.

Chilblains are a problem here too.

Yes it's amazing really. We have quite low temperatures in Melbourne, and yet our house designs are often totally useless in insulating against the cold. You would think after 200 years or so we would have managed to work out that we might be able to copy European designs and therefore reduce our winter heating bills.

If you wanted to avoid the cold altogether you should move to the Middle East.
This is my first summer here-
We have not had a day below 40C for at least a month and won't have one probably until October.
In the evening it is cool if it below 32C.
When I got up at 7:30 this morning it was 36C- it is now 45C.
... and i am told the real heat (and humidity) is still to come!
I don't think they know what a chilblain is here :)

A friend of mine from the north of Sweden claims that he has never been so cold as when he was staying in Melbourne during summer. Hazel is probably right - the household insulation down here in the Antipodes is generally pretty poor. Still, winter is Sydney is infinitely more enjoyable than February-March, when the humidity kicks in...

All the best with those chilblains,

Hylton

Funny you say that, a patient of mine had chillblains on a holiday up in QLD - I told her to buy some chillblain cream to improve her circulation. Tells me that she tried to find something from a pharmacy up there, and didn't realise anything could be done. They actually told her that they don't have anything because no one gets chillblains up there! Maybe not enough demand to stock on their shelves.
