Hi i am a podiatry student and am a little bit confused as to how you determine the subtalar joint axis. I have read some of Dr Kevin Kirby's literature on the subtalar joint axis, and the equilibrium theory, however, i have found conflicting information on how you find the actual axis in a clinical setting.
In Dr kirby's theory, you palpate the entire axis of the foot upon which you find a region which does not invert or evert the foot. Yet some clinicians say that you can palpate only one region directly underneith the subtalar joint which results in no eversion or inversion of the subtalar joint.

You could do that, but you need more than two points to estimate where a line should be.
