Default Methotrexate and infection

Podiatry Arena members do not see these ads
hi,

We have in our diabetic foot clinic a patient (male, 82 yo)who is treated for a pressure wound on the lateral side of the foot (5th met head). we did offloading and local woundcare, gave shoe advise, ... but the problem now seems to be that every time he takes Methotrexate, the infection seems to be getting worse again. Is it possible that infections get worse by taking Methotrexate? Has anyone come across this problem before?

Thanks

Ken

I would be surprised if it did not get worse while on it.

Yup, i believe it lowers the amount of wbc's hence making infection more likely,
I may be worth discussing with the rheumatologist
