Kudos to the administration for recognizing a podiatric pioneer- Roman Centurian Tylomus Minimus. I was delighted to sign on to the forum today and see his forgotten image.
Tylomus was Caligula's personal podiatrist. "Caligula" translated means "little boots". As such, he suffered from severe hyperkeratosis. Tylomus was a very inefficient warrior unable to slay the enemy. He was rather weak and could only carry a short sword as pictured. His feeble sword technique would always result in grazing his enemy- shedding epidermis but never drawing blood. Rather than having him put to death for disgracing the Roman army, Caligula turned his desquamating fighting style into what is now know as podiatry. For years, he allowed Caligula to march in comfort. (He also provided other services for Caligula that I shall not go into.)
Tylomus also invented the first bunion shield- pictured in his left hand. It fit poorly in Caligula's sandal and caused an ulceration. For this, he was put to death.
