Hello!!!!

I’m a recent grad, having trouble finding a job within the NHS.

I am interested in setting up domiciliary service to get some experience and develop my skills whilst I am job hunting.

I have got a few questions.

Anyone info would be greatly appreciated.

1) What is the best way to advertise e.g. local press, Thompson e.g?
2) Do I need to register as self employed for tax purposes.
3) What are the options available for sterilizing equipment?

And any other pointers you think are useful would be greatly recieved

If you are a SCP member you can access details of their Accreditation Scheme for Domicillary Practices on the SCP website. This is not a compulsory scheme and will point you in the right direction for "best practice"

Hi Jenna, congtats on passing ) I qualified in 1998 from Huddersfield & I know job hunting may seem a little demoralising after all your hard work. Best advice I can give about job hunting be pro-active, let your face be known. I actually approached my local Podiatry dept. when I qualified & asked to spend some time with them (no wages but they get to see how keen you are to be involved). I only spent a few days with them & as soon as a post was available I applied & was employed. The Q about home visits. a few tips. 1) you do need to notify the tax man as if you fail to do so you could get fined. (nasty man)
The Societys site (feetforlife.org) has some good advice about setting up too. Well worth a look. Advertising rarely works but..... If you have a car think about having ''Chiropodist'' & your phone No. on your rear screen. (1 payment & u advertise wherever you travel/park). The steriliser is more tricky unless you are on good terms with a local surgery who may allow you to use theirs. All the very best of luck, Hope it goes well. Regards

Suffering a fondness for odd things.

Get yourself out there and know. Give talks to local lunch clubs and associations then folk will know you are worth consulting. Hope it helps and good luck.
