In our previous thread on
ESWT, there was a clear difference between those with a vested financial interest in an ESWT machine and those without this vested interest in the way they interpreted the published evidence for ESWT (the
thread stretched to 4 pages with 101 messages and was almost locked down a couple of times due to the passion almost boiling over). These issues were expanded on in our
Researchers vs the Clinicians thread.
Most of the
ESWT thread focused on its use for plantar fasciitis, but
achilles tendonopathy did make an appearance. There is also a thread on its use for
stress fractures. ESWT is also widely used for lateral epicondylitis in the elbow. It use has also been advocated in
Peyronie’s disease (in case you are wondering, it like dupytrens contracture but affects the penis
)
Now, while searching for something else, I came across this clinical trial using
ESWT for diabetic foot ulcers.
Is ESWT going to be touted as the next "cure all"? Have we not been down this path before? Anyone see parallels in the
ESWT thread and other "cure all" modalities?
