Default Podiatry info for prospective student

I am a current undergrad student and am interested in podiatry. I want to start a thread about "a day in the life as a DPM". I am hoping I can get a better understanding about the profession by having those practicing DPM's, residents, and students post about their everyday lives in this field. I have been recently attracted to this field b/c of the oppurtunities to perform surgery with the general medical aspects. I have heard a lot of negativety about podiatry on the net and I want to hear others opinions on this site. I think this thread could be very informative for students as we could get info that is coming first hand from those in the profession. I am also hoping that this field of medicine can be more understood by others in other fields.Any and all information on this profession is welcome. Thanks

Jon:

Even though I love being a podiatrist, not all podiatrists share that opinion of their profession. The podiatrists that love their profession are busy seeing patients, making them healthier and happier, and making a very good living in doing so....they are not spending their spare time (what little they have) moaning and griping about how poor podiatry is as a profession. They are spending their spare time with their families and friends, doing the fun things that their income and social status allows them to do.

If you want to know what it is like to be a podiatrist, then get off the internet and go and visit a podiatrist or two in your community!! These are the real-life people that will be much more likely to tell you what podiatry is all about than any of the web-pages you are visiting in cyber-space. Also make sure you visit one or two podiatry schools and talk to a few students who are attending to see how they like it so far. This is equally important. Please don't make your final decision regarding podiatry from what you read on the internet, it may be one of the worst decisions you ever made in your life. By the way, this admonition includes the advice I have just given you!
