The Australasian Podiatry Conference 2011 will be held 26-29 April 2011 at the state-of-the-art Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.

A formal call for papers, inviting abstracts for oral or poster presentations, will be included in the August/September issue of Podiatry Bulletin, official magazine of the Australasian Podiatry Council.

The theme of the conference, Setting the pace, reflects the role of the conference in leading podiatry theory and practice. We will welcome an impressive collection of overseas and local speakers to what will be an event of international standing. Areas covered will include, but not be restricted to:

• Rheumatology
• Medication related issues
• High risk foot
• Sports medicine
• Biomechanics
• Paediatrics
• Gerontology
• Surgery
• Dermatology
• Epidemiology
• Practice management
• Public health
• Podiatry education

The conference website is under construction and will include a facility and guidelines for the online submission of abstracts.

All accepted abstracts will be published in hard copy and online as a supplement in Journal of Foot and Ankle Research and therefore searchable using PubMed.

If you are not a regular recipient of Podiatry Bulletin please email greatconference@apodc.com.au to indicate your interest, and we will be pleased to keep you informed.

Default Invitation from the conference chair

Invitation from the Conference Chair

The conference committee takes this opportunity to invite podiatrists from around the world to join the 2011 Melbourne Australasian Podiatry Conference. The conference is held every second year, and it’s special because it reflects the widest possible range of podiatric interests and perspectives.

Speakers are leaders in their fields and workshops provide ample opportunity for networking and professional development. The 2011 theme is “Setting the pace” and we know that our speakers and facilitators will hit the ground running.

The conference is being held at one of Australia’s premier convention centres, in the centre of one of Australia’s most vibrant cities. There’s ample opportunity for delegates to meet and greet in the city’s renowned cafes, pubs, bars and eateries.

We look forward to welcoming you to the 2011 Melbourne conference. We believe it will “set the pace” for podiatry for many years to come.

The conference website can be found at: www.iceaustralia.com/apodc2011/

Default Prof Irene Davis confirmed as keynote speaker

Barefoot running expert confirmed for conference

World renowned foot health expert Prof Irene Davis has been confirmed as a keynote speaker for the Australasian Podiatry Conference next year.

Prof Davis is probably best known for her research into barefoot running, which is the subject of much debate amongst podiatrists.

She has been published in countless peer reviewed journals and was recently featured in Nature.

Prof Davis currently works in the McKinly Laboratory in the Department of Physical Therapy at the University of Delaware where she is researching the relationship between lower extremity structure, mechanics and injury.

She has recently accepted a position at Harvard Medical School to develop and direct a National Centre for Running beginning in January next year.

The next issue of Podiatry Bulletin will feature an interview with Prof Davis, and a podcast interview will also be posted on the APodC website.

Default Win an iPad at the Australasian Podiatry Conference

If you're attending the forthcoming Australasian Podiatry Conference, you can be in the running to win an Apple iPad. All you need to do is visit the Journal of Foot and Ankle Research booth (part of the Australasian Podiatry Council stand) and register for email updates, or, if you are already registered, fill in an application form. You will then be in the prize draw which will be announced on the final day of the conference.

The Journal of Foot and Ankle Research website is optimised for viewing on the iPad and all papers can be freely downloaded as full-text PDF files in popular apps such as iBooks and Papers.

See you at the conference!
