Ian

I love the concept behind it.
As far as I can understand they have a database of shoe dimensions that they can use to estimate your size via best fit i.e. if you like that style then you will also like this!!!.
The interesting bit is how they got this info as most companies are very possessive of their last dimensions.

Who is it selling to, the distributor/website I presume? Great idea. I wonder what the limitations of it's library is? The only thing I would say is that just because an old shoe is comfortable, doesn't mean it is well fitting.

A shoe/trainer stretched over 2 years can feel quite different when an exact same model, make etc is fitted if new. Still, it has to be better than just guessing so I don't know what I am complaining about

Hey Phil,

My understanding is that rather than get this information from the companies directly, they have scanned them themselves. I may be wrong, but thats what their twitter feed hints at: http://twitter.com/shoefitr

I would have thought so as they said this

Shoefitr solves the problem using a database of internal footwear measurements generated by 3D scanners
on the Tell Me More section

Not sure how they did it aside from bandsawing the shoe, scanning the 2 halves and putting them together with the software eg fast scan

We use the same technique for manufacturing spinal jackets from an old, comfortable one that we have trouble reproducing via the usual methods

Good spot Robin - would've been much easier to read that rather than sculk around twitter like Columbo...

I really like this as an idea. Its the first company to my knowledge who may be trying to break away from the 'wet foot test' mould with respect to choosing shoes, and that must be a good thing right? Runner's world take note.
