Pricing for this years Australasian Podiatry Conference
Now maybe I am tight, but does next years Conference in Melbourne seem a little expensive?
$1980 Non-member for early bird and this only includes the dinner if you register by the 31st of December.
Just a quick google and I can go to the
2011 Southeast Regional Conference in Florida
"The Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine is proud to present the 2nd Annual OCPM Southeast Regional Seminar which will be held February 24-27, 2011 at the JW Marriott Orlando Grande Lakes Hotel in Orlando, Florida. "
Re: Pricing for this years Australasian Podiatry Conference
I seem to remember a similar thread 2 years ago about the prices for the last APodC conference; the numbers still turned up to that one and they are comparable to other Australian conferences (+/-$100). Here is next yrs Physiotherapy conference: http://physiotherapy.asn.au/conferen...x.php/register

Re: Pricing for this years Australasian Podiatry Conference
I thought the last APodC Conference at $800 non member (including dinner ... I do love a "free" feed) was quite reasonable.
A jump from $800 to $1980 is, in my opinion, quite large.
The Physio link you gave is a fairly reasonable $1100 non member price, $800 cheaper, that is a little bit more than +/- $100.
I was intending to go until I saw the cost. I am sure plenty of others will go, just not this little impoverished bunny. :)
Re: Pricing for this years Australasian Podiatry Conference
Well you could always cough up your association fee, pay the membership fee and be about $300 better off than the non-members fee. Plus you will also be supporting the association that supports the profession that you work in and have benefited from.

I think this conference is a little expensive too. The dietition's conference this year at the same venue for the same length of time only cost $790 for non-memebrs http://www.arinex.com.au/dietitians2010/rego.php

Perhaps you should closer at the work of Irene Davis - a very clever person who if I was still in OZ I would pay to see.
Look behind the marketing ( I will say crap) of the Podiatry association or the people behind the conference .
In my option they should have introduced Irene as one of the leading researches (if not the leading ) of the effects of leg stiffness on human locomotion and injury . But most people would go whats that and why is that of interest to me.
Barefoot running is going to get more people attention.
Irene Davis - in my option you could learn a huge amount from her.
Re: Pricing for this years Australasian Podiatry Conference
I echo what Mike has said - personally I would jump at the chance to hear Irene speak (and will do so if she ever lectures in the UK). She has probably contributed about as much research to this profession as anyone.

Re: Pricing for this years Australasian Podiatry Conference
$1980 is a joke, Im all for supporting our association and research etc, but after our last state conference where it was actually cheaper to go if you were another health professional than it was for non-member Podiatrists, I think it is about time our association supported us, member or not. Not all Podiatrists make a fortune, or can afford costs like this, but research findings from our peers should be made more financially viably available. Luckily for us we have such good access through these forums.
Re: Pricing for this years Australasian Podiatry Conference
I have just looked at this...
"The conference committee takes this opportunity to invite podiatrists from around the world to join the 2011 Melbourne Australasian Podiatry Conference."
Ok... I am sorry, but I have not continued my APod A registration as I am not currently practicing in Australia.
I don't really think you are welcoming international Podiatrists if you are charging $AUD1980- $AUD2400 to attend... and that is before you look at current exchange rates

I agree. I think the pricing is too expensive, but then im comparing to the UK which is a lot cheaper. One has to keep up with CPD but the pricing here certainly is going to make it really difficult for the skint podiatrist to get the annual points required.

Re: Pricing for this years Australasian Podiatry Conference
I, too, am disappointed with the cost of this years conference. I attended the conference in NZ in September - an interesting and useful conference packed with something for all - and my airfare, conference fee ($640 for 3 days) and accommodation was less than the non-member fee for this one. I am an association member so the cost for me to attend Melbourne would obviously be less than for a non-member, however nearly $1000 plus dinner if I dont pay by tomorrow is too much for me. (That's without airfares, accommodation and loss of income).
BTW - is this the first time there has been a time limit on getting the dinner included?
PS Lots of pods from the NZ conference showed interest in attending the Melbourne conference but I suspect that there wont be so many at that price. Disappointing for the international pods.
Re: Pricing for this years Australasian Podiatry Conference
Ouch that is one expensive conference. I work part time only - there is no way I can justify that expense with only one day of Podiatry work a week! The price to me is a big shame. Get a bigger venue, drop the price and have more attendees please!

Re: Pricing for this years Australasian Podiatry Conference
As an exhibitor that paid even more than that..............yes it was.
DrComfort were next to me, talk about busy little buggers with their compression stockings, which just drew more over near to my stand, thank you boys, mind you l dont think l would have wanted to have been so close to the Nike boys
Re: Pricing for this years Australasian Podiatry Conference
I do agree its heaps... I know many of us new Pods (1 - 3 years of exp) cant really go due to price...
Its sad...
People has always told me that the conferences do sell out... etc :P I don't really know... I think if I had been longer in the Podiatry game then I would be set for conference - money wise
Re: Pricing for this years Australasian Podiatry Conference
I had planned on going to this years National Conference and catching some of the AFL games that were on at the same time. However, the family hijacked the trip and it became a family holiday instead. Unfortunately, the conference wasn't in the equation after that from a cost point of view.
I was in Melbourne at the time of the conference anyway, so I thought that I may take a few hours to check out the trade displays. To my amazement, I wasn't allowed into the trade display unless I was a registered participant!!! I could go in if I registered for the day......day registration was going to be $600ish!!
I've been to a number of National Conferences in the past (admitedly not for a few years), and never has the trade display been behind closed doors.
I was very disappointed at the Association's attitude.
Re: Pricing for this years Australasian Podiatry Conference
havent been to a uk conference for 25 years always falls in november i bugger off to florida for all of november . 1900 aus dollars to attend as an oversees visitor is a bloody joke
its the cost of 2 long haul flights from the uk to almost anywhere. Then flights then hotel food why would an overseas pod pay 5000 aus dollars to attend 3 day event. thats based on 2 aus dollars to the pound. i think your pod org is very greedy.
Re: Pricing for this years Australasian Podiatry Conference
Ive always thought the running of conferences in luxury resorts etc a little pretencious. Set up a tent in a paddock hire some rock bands .....oh wait thats woodstock......"FLASHBACK! .....seriously bring it back down to earth and more will come....and make them family friendly.

Law of supply and Demand ! Damn capitalists !!!! Perhaps us "Poor" pods can start our own break away conference, somewhere that needs people to visit...Like Invercargill NewZealand. We,ve got world class facilities and beautiful distractions close by. All well priced compared to the Au$$ie buck. Friendly Locals and Great BEER and food. It'd be great to have a lowbrow gathering of like minds!
