Lawyer wins vs. shady podiatrist

Quote:
Defense Attorney Gerald Shargel has scored a legal victory in a case with a famed client - himself.

Crooked podiatrist Lawrence Klein has withdrawn a motion that accused Shargel of providing ineffective representation and charging an exorbitant fee.

Klein claimed he was forced to plead guilty because Shargel was unprepared to go to trial.

"It was plain to everyone in the courtroom that the motion had no merit," said Shargel, who has represented mob boss John Gotti and convicted Long Island killer Danny Pelosi. "Dr. Klein was well represented and the fees he paid were earned."

With Shargel as his attorney, Klein pleaded guilty to stealing $10 million from Medicare in exchange for a 57-month prison sentence. He now faces 21 years for reneging on the plea.

A similar but unrelated claim against Shargel by the daughter of mobster Anthony Spero was dismissed two weeks ago by a state disciplinary committee.

Talking 10 Million

How in the world does someone "steal" 10 million dollars? If I extropolate what I receive legitimately from Medicare per year, it would take me approximately 85 years of practice to even come close!!

I figure at that rate I would be ready to retire at the ripe old age of 120, assuming anyone would still want to see me while I was in diapers and drooling!!!!!

In all seriousness however, did this guy really expect that type of lawyer would be able to defend a case like this? Those guys have a niche in law, and even if you could afford him, he is probably not the best guy for the job.

BTW.......way to go New York newspaper, you prove once again that your journalism style is only a small step above the National Enquirer, Star, and Weekly World News.
