Hello all - habve been away for a while - well about a year having a baby but back now! and am currently working my notice in the nhs going over to the dark side (private) am bricking it a bit - anyway I'm rambling - my question is has anyone got any experience of decent practice software - not podware pro! Have looked at TM2 and also Medimac - what do you all think or use??
thanks have read those but none mention either of the programmes I mentioned and a lot seem to be based in australia and america - I am based in the uk - any other ideas?
I have been using PPMS from Tynedale computing for the last 3 years.
I use it for patient details, treatment notes and to record payments from patients. There is an accounting facility but I don't use this, I just hand over my records of payments from patients and all my receipts to a bookeeper once a year.
I find the PPMS software very easy to use.

I use TM2. Have been for about 9 months now and really like it.
I wouldn't bother with any of the others, their name's are enough to make me cringe.
Although I haven't been using TM2 for years, I've recently been to one of their "open nights" where they listen to your feedback for updates, there were plenty of physio's that have been using it for donkey's years and seemed very happy with it.
Take a look at PPS too. That was the only other program I considered before deciding to use TM2.
TM2 won me over for the following main points:
*"Web 2.0" appearance
*Notes get time stamped when you "close consultation" and cannot be changed to assist you in the event of a case being brought against you
*Auto email and texts sent to patients, no excuses for DNA's and I dont have to call them
*Smart PDF invoices automatically produced at time of billing
*very configurable

PPS does all of this for me, but what is the Web 2.0 appearance thing about? Sounds Interesting!
"Web 2.0" is a phrase tech geeks use a lot, it just means the interface, graphics, shading etc are all highly detailed and smooth. It would be like comparing Windows 98 (not Web 2.0) with the look and "flow" of say Windows 7.
I've used PPS very briefly and must admit its very similar, not sure on the detailed functionality of PPS, but one of the things TM2 excels at is its report features (and you can create reports on almost anything!)

Thanks LP, that makes sense with Web 2.0. There seems to be a lot of software now (for instance PPMS above) that looks around 10 years out of date!!
I think TM2 sounds very similar to PPS, my former company used PPS to automatically create Excel CSV files that they exported into their Sage accounts system for the weekly accounts so that they didn't need to input the data twice which saved the reception ladies a lot of time - Though I didn't understand why they needed Sage in the first place as the system we had with PPS was more than enough. I think it was a case of consultants telling us that every "serious company" uses Sage which got the directors of the company on their high horse and enforced the usage of it without ever really using any of it's features. (Excuse the tangent)
The reporting features are one of my favourite parts about PPS, and if TM2 is the same then that is good news, as I already have used it in a large data enviroment so after the initial months of starting your own business up, the detailed reports really give you a good idea on what you should be looking out for. My most important reports aside from accounts ones for the accountant are contacting people who have not turned up and not re-booked with me, and offerring more regular patients extra incentives to keep their feet in tip top condition as that's where I can gain the most profits. I usually do this by e-mail or SMS as it's the cheapest way personally.
Hope this gives you a few ideas on what to look for with the systems that are out there.
The thing that I struggled witht the most was being able to raise a unique purchase order number for orthotic devices being ordered. I could create a unique number, but not as part of a prescription form. Anyone have any luck with a solve for this? I use practice pal so have created my own prescription form but have to create the unique number seperately and link them up

One option for the order number is use the client number for the orthotic that has been purchased or ordered for. I looked at all the software (demos) available before purchasing PPS from Rushcliff, I found it really easy to use and very reliable. My receptionist who hates computers has been able to use it effectively and efficiently. One of the best parts about it has been the fact that you can carry out a Mail merge to contact clients by post or email which saves us an incredible amount of time. PPS has completely transformed my prcatice note and record taking into the 21st century, fast and efficient as well as keeping all of the clients contact details and payment records in the same place with the option of backing up daily. I would recommend PPS above any other software system on the market and is phenominally good value for money.
