Item on the BBC's one show tonight on how we should all forefoot strike ( I fink, I only caught about the last minute) I've posted this up in order to remind me to post the link to the segment on BBC i-player when it becomes available. It'll be available tomorrow (16/9/2011) if not later tonight. It's the last article feature in the show (so, toward the end of the 30 minute show) Here's the general show link: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b007tcw7

Pose/Chi/Barefoot/Minimalist/Natural Running ---> greater forefoot loads; greater rearfoot inversion moments; greater ankle dorsiflexion moment; greater forefoot dorsiflexion moments

Rearfoot striking ---> greater heel strike impact transient

Half a dozen of one; 6 of the other. Depending on where an individual does or does not need the loads reduced/increased ... you do what is best for the individual rather than follow the propaganda that one way is the best for everyone.

For me the best part of forefoot striking is that it makes better use of the natural pulling forces of gravity.

The advantage of heeling striking might come if the arch acts in some way as a greater spring & landing full foot takes greater advantage of that spring (arch)?. I don't think that is the case though.

Can we relate to what is best by referring to the animal kingdom?. Maybe, maybe not. They are far more efficient & speedier though.

I guess the BBC won't allow us viewers in the colonies see their videos. Anyone able to convert it so we all can take a look at it?

Sorry Kevin, I guess you shouldn't have fought for independence. Perhaps you just need to pay the license fee! It's basically saying we shouldn't strike on our heels, we should strike forefoot first and that "you can try this at home even in your trainers, but take it steady". Looking forward to lots of achilles injuries coming my way on the back of this.

P.S. have you tried downloading the BBC iplayer?
