A female friend of mine underwent an orthpaedic procedure for hallux rigidus a few months ago. I dont know much about the procedure she had except a screw was used for fixation.
2 weeks ago she fell down some stone garden steps and injured the operation site. AFAIK the x ray report described "hairline cracks around the screw and some small bone chips off 1st met shaft".
I have been treating her with low level laser with excellent results but she going on holiday in 10 days to Vietnam for an adventure holiday. She must dispense with her crutches and rely on a folding stick and must wear shoes. I am looking for advice on suitable shoes. Would a rigid shank (trainer-like) walking shoe give her mobility without stressing the injury too much?
I think she should forget about Vietnam - # around surgical site needs more than 10 days - she taking a big risk. But rigid rocker sole shoe is best option if she must go.
