Can anyone out there in cyber land put me in contact with Gary Gibson in North Staffs? I taught him a million years ago, but that is not the point. Gary, if you are out there, I love a few words with you. Rob K

Afraid I can't help with locating your man, but does this mean The Kidds are back in the UK some time soon? You owe me a beer, remember?

As we speak I am just avoiding being seasick on my boat. While I am on a marina the weather is so foul that I having trouble keeping my lunchtime pint down! Tis winter in South Australia, and flugging cold to go with it. We will be in the UK next year. I teach Mondays and Tuesdays (medical anatomy, so nothing that you don't know......); each Tuesday I go into the Uni early, to catch up on the literature in the library. In the July edition of Podiatry today, there was an obit to Roy Buxton. In a previous life - about 1979 (were you born then?) Roy was good to Ros and I. I happened to read an anecdote about how Gary looked after his feet in his final weeks and months - I simply wished to thank him. While Gary was a student like any other, he came from the same(ish) neck of the woods as me, and we are (in my case were) both climbers. He is a good boy and needs to be reminded of this. That's all.

You will get you beer next year! Rob

Hi Rob. Gary is a good friend of Dave Dunning. I will e-mail Dave for you and ask if he can pass on Gary's e-mail address. Hope all is well. Regards. Wes

Cheers Wes. Oddly this is getting decidedly circular - Dave is a good mate of mine also! Remember that Friday night down P8, about 35 years ago?

Dave D and I were in the same year at Salford; we drifted apart for perhaps 5 years and came back to being ch4 in Stoke on Trent together. He was way better at that stuff than me. I, by then, had focussed of a teaching career and the rest, as they say, is history. But it never is; We both scuba dived. Dave came on one of my pivotal expeditions to St Kilda way out from the outer Hebrides in 1986. It was very character building - ask him! While I haven't seen Dave for over 20years, I bet, given 2 pints of decent beer, the distance would evaporate!

Thanks Wes. I gather you pass through the Southern Hemisphere from time to time; next time we must meet up

Cheers Rob. I'm actually going to be down there in September - Southern Cross Uni but I'm not sure whether or not this is anywhere near you? Cheers Wes

No, nowhere near me. Currently I am teaching good old fashioned medical anatomy in Adelaide (South Australia). Do please give my regards to Susan while you are there

Gary wrote to me a couple of hours ago. Its was really humbling to listen to how he looked after an elder statesman in his dying hours. I knew that Gary was a climber like I was many years ago (though he was way over my league). What I not realise is quite the accomplishment of the man. To climb 100 routes in 1 day is a magnificent achievement. But then, so is to look after the feet of a dying colleague. Rob
